US Electrodynamics Inc. (USEI) Partners With Radeus Labs to Test and Refine New Antenna Control System

About US Electrodynamics Inc.:

US Electrodynamics Inc. (USEI) provides various communications services, including voice traffic, point-to-point data connections, VSAT services, voice-over IP, and Maritime services.

USEI was established in 1987 by purchasing the Brewster, WA location from COMSAT.

Since then, USEI has implemented more than fifty-five antennas at the Brewster site. They maintain antennas ranging in size from 6.1 meters to thirty meters in diameter.

The antennas’ primary function is carrying mission-critical U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) services, accounting for roughly half of the services the team provides.

System reliability and up-time are key to the business.

The Challenge:

In 2015, there was an aging population of antenna control equipment in the field serving critical applications. Many of these systems had over 20 years of service and had far exceeded their design life. With over 30 years of experience designing SATCOM technical solutions, Radeus Labs is well-equipped to tackle this challenge.

The Solution:

Radeus Labs created a new antenna control system as a next-generation system to replace these aging, legacy units as they begin to fail and face obsolescence. The new system was designed to reduce the complexity of the system setup. Simplicity and ease of use were critical goals for this system.

The engineers and scientists developing the state-of-the-art antenna control system, the Radeus Labs 8200 ACU and 8250 drive cabinet system, were looking for a partner to help them test and refine this new solution.

The Partnership:

In May 2015, Radeus Labs Inc. began working with USEI to test and refine the new system. The Radeus team was thrilled to have an industry heavyweight like USEI involved in the development efforts for this highly technical solution. Within eighteen months, the equipment was vetted and working to expectations.

The Customer Feedback
:

“Our customers rely on us for outstanding customer service and technical experience. Many times, we can solve their problems with the first call. Once we pointed the new antenna control system at a satellite and began tracking, it operated very well!

The 8200 is user-friendly and intuitive, and the touch screen is fantastic. The large, high-contrast touchscreen display makes for easy access to system parameters. Adjacent to the display is a built-in jog panel controller, giving ready access when the antenna needs to be moved manually. An identical manual jog controller is built into the drive cabinet so customers can move the antenna from the drive cabinet without having to install additional equipment or have additional personnel in front of the ACU during maintenance or repair operations. The 8200 is very easy to set up.”
